Carol Service – December 2017

The annual Carol Service took place in the Abbey Church on Sunday 10th of December.

Despite the dreadful weather the church was packed which was very pleasing.

The Choir’s singing was sublime and all the hard work the choir has put in over the last four months certainly paid off. The sound was clear and clean and it was a great triumph for this group of very talented young men.

George Downing of 6th Year spoke to the congregation about his experiences in Kenya last summer with the 5th Year group that went there. Some of the points of information he made were both disturbing and convincing. There was a collection afterwards for the next Kenyan project which will be in 2019 and people were once again very generous in their donations to this most worthy of causes.

Fr. Columba deserves huge credit for the success of the Carol Service and when the Choir returned to the Sacristy, vice-Captain Tim O’Grady Walshe acknowledged the Choir’s gratitude to Fr. Columba for all his hard work.

Everyone transferred over to the school after the service for mince pies and refreshment. There was great interest in Baxter Storeys Christmas stall in the school Atrium. The profits from this sale will go to the Kenya Project.

The Carol Service was a great success and it now feels like real Christmas!
