The annual Glenstal Family Weekend took place from May 9th to 11th. Headquarters was the Hotel Westport where the excellent staff and facilities made it an ideal venue. 120 parents, guardians, siblings and students made up the Glenstal group. There was plenty for everyone to do including the Leisure Centre and Spa at the hotel. As with last the food in the hotel restaurant was excellent.
The weather forecast wasn’t great for the weekend. But somebody must have been looking after us as there was almost no rain throughtoutthe Greenway cycle. The mist came down quite to the top of Croagh Patrick and the climbers decided not to risk doing the full accent and returned down the mountain.
The majority of parents and students chose the Greenway cycle. This year it was decided to bus out to Achill where the bikes were waiting and the cycle route was back to Westport. This was a good idea as the wind was at our backs for almost all the journey. Newport was the main pit stop where everyone checked through before making the final leg of the Greenway to Wesport.
Grateful thanks to Pat Aylward for following the cycle and for transporting bikes hither and yon.
The weekend was a great success and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Again, we are most grateful to Cathal Hughes who put the Hotel Westport at our disposal and who hosted a most enjoyable reception in the hotel before Dinner on Saturday. Fr. William joined the group for Saturday Dinner.
Everyone headed home on Sunday afternoon tired but with lots of happy memories of a great weekend.
We hope to continue the Family Weekend next year and details will be sent out to parents in due course.
