Glenstal Old Boys at Munster Rugby Dinner in London

by Denis Hooper OSB

At the recent Munster Dinner in London, Paul O’Connell described Colm Hogan(2015) as “A Special Talent”.

Paul, along with Ronan O’Gara and David Wallace, was being interviewed on stage after the Dinner by former England and Lions player, Martin Bayfield.

When asked by Martin about his present role as Director of the Munster Academy, Paul singled out Colm Hogan for particular mention. He said that with such talent coming through the Academy, the future of Munster rugby looked bright.paul-oconnell

Paul also praised the coaching staff at Glenstal for their nurturing of rugby talent in Munster and mentioned the fact that Ian Nagle(2007) and Duncan Casey(2009) had been to Glenstal.

There was a large Glenstal presence at the Munster Dinner in London with Old Boys, some current and past parents as well as Brother Denis who was the guest of Killian Hurley, father of Darragh(2006) and Eoin(2013). Killian has recently been appointed to the Board of Directors of Munster Rugby.

In a conversation with Ronan O’Gara after the Dinner, Ronan enquired of Br. Denis about the progress of Jack Stafford (2016) and present SCT player, Ben Healy. Ronan had given both Glenstal players a one-to-one coaching session in Cork three years ago and was impressed with their talent and dedication. He was delighted with Br. Denis’ report that both players are going from strength to strength on their rugby paths. Ronan said he would keep a special eye out for both players in the future.

So, a very good night for Glenstal at the Munster Rugby Dinner in London and the Glenstal connection with Munster Rugby continues to grow.
