Everyone had a very enjoyable day at the Munster Indoors today in Nenagh. We had 26 students participate across 17 events.
Having had several 4th place finishes, it seemed as though a medal would escape us as the day wore on. Thankfully, our talented First Years put in a wonderful team effort to win Bronze in the 4x200m Relay event. The team included Cian O’ Farrell, Darragh Hanly, Taylor Gleeson and Aidan Booth.
Our Under-17 boys also put in an excellent display in the 4x200m, finishing 2nd in their heat, only to loose out on a medal by a fraction of a second. The Team consisted of Declan Floyd, Ben Moloney, Mark Fleming & Ronan Quinn.
Michael Gilbride & Michael Higgins of 2nd Year came through their heats in the Under-15 60m sprint, only to loose out narrowly in the Semi finals.
Other performances of note included Rory Clarke in the Under-17 Shot putt, throwing a remarkable 9.4 meters (7th overall); Rùairì Woodcock in the Under-14 long jump and Conor Booth in the Under-17 boys 600m.
However, performance of the day had to go to Cian O Farrell in the Under-14 600m. In a high quality field, Cian outshone his opponents to deliver Gold for Glenstal.
Although there was a lot of waiting throughout the day between events, coaches Cameron Duffy and Brendan O’Keeffe agreed that the boys behaviour was impeccable and they deserve credit for it.
5 medals from 26 participants is a solid return in any provincial event.
