IAN NAGLE SELECTED FOR THE IRISH RUGBY SIX NATIONS TRAINING SQUAD

IAN NAGLE (2008) HAS BEEN SELECTED FOR THE IRISH RUGBY TRAINING SQUAD WHICH WILL BE BASED IN LIMERICK FOR A WEEK, COMMENCING ON JANUARY 23RD.

FROM HIS FIRST YEAR IN GLENSTAL, IAN WAS A PLAYER TO NOTE AND FOLLOWED CLOSELY IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF HIS OLDER BROTHER MATT WHO CAPTAINED THE SCT IN 2005 AND 2006. MATT WENT ON TO CAPTAIN THE U.C.D. RUGBY TEAM AND WAS SHORTLISTED FOR THE U.C.D. “TEAM OF THE CENTURY”. IAN AND MATT NAGLE REPRESENTED GLENSTAL IN RUGBY AT EVERY AGE LEVEL. LIKE MATT, IAN ALSO PLAYED ON THE SCT FOR THREE YEARS IN A ROW.

BOTH NAGLE BROTHERS WERE PART OF THE HUGELY SUCCESSFUL GLENSTAL AUSTRALIAN RUGBY TOUR IN 2005, CAPTAINED BY MATT. THAT YEAR, THE GLENSTAL SQUAD WAS AWARDED THE SPIRIT OF RUGBY AWARD AT THE GOLD COAST INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF SCHOOLS RUGBY.

IN HIS FINAL YEAR, IAN WAS SELECTED FOR THE MUNSTER SCHOOLS AND IRELAND UNDER 19 SQUAD WHICH PLAYED IN THE SIX NATIONS COMPETITION IN BELFAST IN 2008.

SINCE LEAVING GLENSTAL IAN HAS FURTHER REPRESENTED IRELAND AT UNDER 21 LEVEL. HE WAS ON THE VICTORIOUS CORK CONSTITUTION TEAM THAT WON THE ALL IRELAND LEAGUE IN 2009 (THREE GLENSTAL PLAYERS PLAYED IN THE FINAL).

IAN WAS AWARDED A FULL CONTRACT WITH MUNSTER EARLIER THIS YEAR. THIS FOLLOWED SOME OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES FOR MUNSTER BY HIM. HE WAS NAMED MAN-OF-THE-MATCH WHEN MUNSTER DEFEATED AUSTRALIA IN NOVEMBER 2010.

IAN HAS SINCE PLAYED FOR MUNSTER IN MANY MAGNIERS LEAGUE AND RABO DIRECT GAMES. WE HOPE THAT IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE HE BREAKS INTO A REGULAR PLACE ON THE MUNSTER TEAM. THIS RECENT SELECTION TO THE IRISH TRAINING SQUAD IS ANOTHER GIANT STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION FOR IAN.

EVERYONE HERE IN GLENSTAL EXTENDS TO IAN OUR WARMEST CONGRATULATIONS ON THIS LATEST LANDMARK IN HIS RUGBY CAREER. WE WILL FOLLOW HIM WITH KEEN INTEREST AS HE PROGRESSES FURTHER AND FURTHER IN THE MONTHS AND YEARS AHEAD.
