The SCT were beaten 5-3 by Rockwell in the closest of games. The game was held in Clanwilliam and the rain persisted throughout the game making it difficult for both sides to play the type of flowing rugby they prefer.

It took the Glenstal side some time before they found their stride as Rockwell owned the lions share of possession in the first half. They scored a fine try after their No11 caught a cross-kick from their No10 and went in to the corner. The conversion was not successful.

Glenstal narrowed the gap with a well-taken penalty by Luke Bradley making the half-time and indeed fulltime score 5-3.

Again, it took the Glenstal side some time to get out of the blocks in the second half. However, once they got moving they threatened Rockwell with menace. Glenstal were barely inches away with a penalty in the last two minutes of the game from a beautifully struck kick from Luke Bradley.

It was disappointing to lose such a closely contested game but full credit to Rockwell for their determination and physical rugby.

Players of note for Glenstal were Kevin Lynch, Luke Bradley, Rossa Dooley, Kieran Grennan and Andrew Devereau.

Glenstal play Pres Cork in the second round of the Quarter Final in two weeks. We are all looking forward to a much-improved display from the team.
