Murroe (alt Moroe) is situated in the north-east corner of Co. Limerick, quite close to the Co. Tipperary border. It is eleven miles from Limerick city, a thriving commercial and industrial centre. Many Murroe people work in Limerick, and there is a daily bus link. Murroe also lies along the main Limerick-Kilkenny bus route.

There are four main approaches to Glenstal Abbey.

Coming from Dublin along the main Limerick motorway (M7), take Exit 28. On exiting you will be on a roundabout. Take the third exit marked Castletroy/Limerick (R445). Pass by Finnegans on the left, at the traffic lights turn left onto the R506 and the road is well sign-posted to both Murroe and Glenstal Abbey, about six miles from the main road. Coming from Limerick along the main Dublin road, pass over the new bridge at Annacotty and take the turn to the right at the traffic lights, where the sign-post reads Glenstal Abbey.

Follow signs for Limerick. After passing Bunratty Castle (on left), you will arrive at Juntion 4. Continue forward onto the N18 (signposted Limerick East). Please not that this section is tolled. At Junction 1 (Rosbrien Interchange) continue forward onto the M7 Motorway (signposted Dublin). Leave the M7 at exit 28, then at roundabout take the 1st exit onto the Dublin road (R445). Turn left at the traffic lights onto the R506 and the road is well signposted to both Murroe and Glenstal Abbey.

Coming from Waterford, pass through Tipperary and take the road to Limerick. Seventeen miles from Tipperary turn right at Boher, and Glenstal Abbey is five miles from the main road. Coming from Fermoy, pass through Caherconlish, and then turn right two miles further on, to join the main Limerick-Waterford road. One mile from this turn you will see a turn to the left at Boher, which takes you directly to Glenstal Abbey, following the signs.

Take the road out of Newport sign-posted Cappamore/Cork. Four miles on you come to a Five Road junction. Turn sharp left and you come to Glenstal Abbey less than half a mile away.

Take the Limerick Road out of Cappamore turning right at the top of the village. Three miles along this road turn right again to Murroe. Pass through village of Murroe, and Glenstal Abbey is on the right.

There is a good railway service from Dublin and Cork to Limerick City (11m.) or to Limerick Junction (15m.). Glenstal is about 20 miles from Shannon Airport. To reach Glenstal from Shannon, pass through Limerick City and follow the route already indicated above (i.e. from West).
