Welcome to Glenstal Abbey

Glenstal Abbey is home to a community of monks who strive to live according to the Rule of St Benedict and the precepts of the gospel. A place of great natural beauty, of prayer and of work, Glenstal offers our guests and visitors an invitation to open their lives and their hearts to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

The Abbey is home to a boarding school for boys, a farm, a guesthouse and a monastic community. The presence of a praying community gives to Glenstal its unique character.

In the pages of this website it is our pleasure to offer you a little insight into what we are about. Welcome to Glenstal Abbey!

Abbot Brendan Coffey OSB

` that the strong may have something to strive after, and the weak may not fall back in dismay.' Rule of Benedict

Glenstal Abbey will be closed to guests and visitors until April 19th. The situation will be reviewed at that time.

You can continue to pray with our community on the live Webcam. We will continue to broadcast our Lenten Talks live on Sunday afternoons.

On Thursday 12th September Br Oscar began his novitiate at Vespers.

On Saturday 14th September Br Justin made his first Monastic Profession at Conventual Mass.

It is our pleasure to share with you, friends, benefactors, parents, students, colleagues and visitors, something of the variety and richness of life here in Glenstal Abbey.

In light of additional guidelines (28/03/2020) and following consultation with the Public Health Authority we will, at their request, continue to broadcast Conventual Mass (12.10pm Weekdays and 10am Sundays) while observing social distancing. The Divine Office will be celebrated in private.
