How to Apply
Glenstal Abbey School is part of a Benedictine monastery, proud of its deep roots in the monastic and Christian tradition and we are happy to welcome students from a wide variety of backgrounds to share our life here.
There are normally three points of entry:
- Year 1 Junior Cycle
- Year 4 Transition Year and Senior Cycle
- Year 5 Senior Cycle
Entry at other points may also be considered however, we do not accept students in Year 6 (the final year).
For entry in Year 1, we invite registered applicants to participate in our Live-In Experience, in June of the year prior to entry. This is the first stage of our admissions process. Offers are made in October for entry in the following year.
For entry at other times, we invite you to arrange an individual visit to the school and provide two most recent school reports and a reference from your existing school.
Having been offered a place, you will be required to make a timely acceptance with the appropriate deposit.
Overseas applicants are welcome. Parents living overseas must appoint a guardian for their son in Ireland, who will be available to act on their behalf while they are here as full boarders. They also provide support to students when they leave the school during holidays and exeats. We are happy to help you to make arrangements if required.
To get a real sense of what Glenstal Abbey School has to offer, we recommend that you come and see for yourselves.
We invite you to make an appointment to visit us at any time. We will show you something of the school’s academic, pastoral and extra-curricular provisions, and you will have an opportunity to see our school and meet both staff and students. A typical visit will include an individual school tour, with a member of staff as your guide and a discussion with the Headmaster.
If you would like to make an appointment to come and visit us please contact the Admissions Office, using the Admissions Enquiry Form.
