On Thursday, December 13th the Fifth Years hosted the Marian Active Senior Citizens Club for Christmas Dinner.
The group arrived in Glenstal and went straight into the Outer Playroom where there was a roaring fire lit by Peter Fahy to warm them before we all headed for Dinner.
Cormac Feeley was the Master of Ceremonies and he formally welcomed the group on behalf of the Fifth Years. Fr. Denis welcomed them on behalf of Fr. Abbot and the monastic community.
Baxter Storey provided a first class Christmas Dinner in the Senior ref. Each Fifth Year had a VIP to look after as they served them dinners and generally made a fuss over them. Each and every Fifth Year played their role in what was a wonderful day for the members of the Marian Club.
After Dinner everyone went into the Inner Playroom where we had a Christmas Singsong hosted by Cormac Feeley. Tim Hyde, Richard Enright, Fr. Denis, Calum Blake(2nd Year), William Lacy, Paddy O'Connor, Darragh Butler, Cian O'Farrell, Evan O'Neill, Robert Fleming and Tim Murphy all provided entertainment - some more polished than others but all in great fun!
Then Santa arrived along with his two helpers who looked suspiciously like Ruairi Woodcock and Cormac Frawley. Santa was extra generous this year and in fact all of our guests received two presents from him. Not only that, we held a raffle with some nice prizes.
Many thanks to the 5th Year parents and guardians who provided such beautiful presents for Santa to distribute.
So, everyone was pleased with the day. The members of the Marian Club could not have been more effusive in their praise for the Fifth Years. They were amazing throughout the day and brought much happiness into the lives of the Marian Club members. You can't ask for more.
Congratulations to all the 5th Years. This was a day when we saw everything that is good about Glenstal Abbey School.
