Munster Schools Tennis Wins by John Twomey(2nd Year) and Christopher Burke-Young(3rd Year)
Last week the finals of the Munster Tennis Championships were held at Nenagh Tennis Club. The under 14 and under 16 teams were both competing in their respective Shield competitions.
It was a beautiful day for the finals in Nenagh. After a quick warmup and a bit of a waiting around the under 16s were ready to go. First up where the doubles; Chris Burke Young and Thomas McAllister. The match went very well with Glenstal winning both sets 6-4. That made it one - nil to Glenstal Abbey. Max Stone and Nyoleme Agbanobi quickly overcame their singles opponents for a stunning win for the under 16s.
Next up were the under 14s. Sam O’Farrell kicked things off very well with what looked like an effortless win in his singles match. Jonathan Cunningham-Ash and John Twomey won against their opponents in a concise match. Callum Deegan put up a very strong resistance in singles but was eventually beaten and then John Twomey and Sam O’Farrell were able to finish their match with their second doubles match which was 6-1,6-2, resulting in another win for Glenstal.
So that was two victories over Rochestown in all a very successful day of tennis for Glenstal. The two Shields will be kept in Glenstal for another year.
