On Monday morning at assembly, new reusable travel mugs were officially launched across the school. This was in a bid to move away from from ceramic and disposable cups, in the context of the school making environmentally sustainable choices with regards to wastage.
Also from Monday morning, single use plastics which were used for desserts, have been replaced with glass reusable containers in the refectories. This follows on from last year when the Student Council and Fr Denis noticed how we were using hundreds of single use plastic straws every day which we subsequently phased out from the school
At break, the entire school community gathered in the Atrium to celebrate this launch with hot chocolate and biscuits. Those who forgot to bring their new travel mugs were quick to run off to find them! It was a good induction to our new routine and a wonderful way to gather together as a community, as we returned from the half-term break.

Thank you to Michael Franklin and Kieran Roche (Transition Year) for setting up and helping out at the event and in particular to the Student Council, Noelle O’Brien and Oonagh Bermingham for their advice and support for these initiatives.
