Glenstal Abbey is situated in the village of Murroe. Murroe (alt. Moroe) is situated in the north-east corner of County Limerick, quite close to the Tipperary border. It is 20.0 km from Limerick city.
There are four main approaches to Glenstal Abbey:
(a) From Dublin/Limerick/Shannon (west)
Coming from Dublin along the main Limerick road (M7), Leave the M7 at junction 28, then at roundabout take the 3rd exit onto Dublin Road – R445 (signposted Limerick). Turn left onto the R506 (signposted Cappamore, Murroe). Bear left onto the R506. Continue forward onto Main Street – R506 Entering Murroe. Follow the sign-post for Glenstal Abbey
(b) From Waterford/Fermoy/Tipperary (south)
Coming from Waterford, pass through Tipperary and take the road for Limerick. Drive for 27.0 km and then turn right at Boher, and Glenstal Abbey is 8.0 km from the main road.
Coming from Fermoy, pass through Caherconlish, and then turn right 3.2 km further on, to join the main Limerick-Waterford road. Approximately 1.5 km from this turn you will see a turn to the left at Boher, which takes you directly to Glenstal Abbey, following the signs.
(c) From Thurles/Newport/Toomevara (north)
Take the road out of Newport sign-posted Cappamore/Cork. Drive for approximately 8.0 km until you arrive at Five Road junction. Turn sharp left and follow the road, Glenstal Abbey is less than a kilometer away.
(d) From Cashel/Cappamore (east)
Take the Limerick Road out of Cappamore, turning right at the top of the village. Approximately 5.0 km along this road turn right again to Murroe. Pass through village of Murroe, and Glenstal Abbey is on the right.
