Sports on offer include athletics, badminton, basketball, fencing, golf, orienteering, rowing, rugby, soccer and hurling. Facilities include four rugby pitches, ten tennis courts, a soccer pitch, sports hall and cardio-vascular suite plus a six lane 400 metres running track during the summer. In addition the estate has an abundance of woodland paths which offer opportunities for exploration and activity. The school prides itself on its outstanding provision for games. There are regular fixtures with other schools for all age groups in the major team games.
Rugby is conducted on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on our four Rugby pitches. Rugby is the school’s main team sport and is compulsory for 1st years unless as a parent you expressly wish this not to be the case.
Athletics is conducted on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Fencing is conducted on Saturdays and is compulsory for all 1st years.
Golf - The school offers Golf lessons in association with Ballykisteen Golf Club on Saturday afternoons. Students can avail of lessons including full membership of the club for a fee.
Orienteering - Beginner’s Orienteering takes place on the Glenstal estate.
Tennis lessons occur on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons for both beginner and advanced players on our all-weather tennis courts.
The indoor sports hall is used for badminton, basketball and indoor soccer and has an extensive weights/cardiovascular suite.
Swimming is conducted on Wednesday afternoons in the University of Limerick’s 50 metres pool .
Rowing – We have introduced Rowing in partnership with Shannon Rowing Club. This is conducted on Wednesday afternoons
In addition on certain days in the week especially Tuesday and Thursdays those not involved in tennis or rugby gym training will be assigned to a Housemaster to keep them active. These activities will take the form of a 5 km run or walk, circuits in the Gym, Pitch and Putt, Carpentry, Yoga and Taekwondo.
Transportation to all outside activities is covered by the school.
